Sayani Gupta has described Four More Shots Please! as a story about women’s agency and friendship that can also speak to people beyond its central group of women. She plays Damini Roy, a journalist, and has said she recognizes some of Damini’s controlling, perfectionistic traits while keeping the character’s personal life distinct from her own. Gupta’s reported role in Margarita With A Straw is Khanum.
How Gupta relates to Damini
In an interview with The Indian Express published on April 18, 2020, Gupta said she connected with the series and its focus on women-led stories. “I totally resonate with the series which is why I said yes in the first place. I feel there’s a dearth of women-led narratives where they have complete agency over their lives and they are in complete control.”
Gupta has described Damini as complex, opinionated, and driven. She recognizes aspects of herself in Damini, including a tendency to be controlling and perfectionistic, but has also emphasized that their personal lives differ. Relating to particular traits, in her account, does not mean treating the character as a portrait of her own life.
What she means by women’s agency
Gupta’s comments distinguish agency from any single lifestyle choice. Addressing discussion of the show’s depictions of drinking and smoking, she said: “I truly believe that women empowerment does not have to be about women smoking or drinking.” Her point is that empowerment is about women having the freedom and courage to make choices; drinking or smoking is not, by itself, what makes a woman empowered.
That distinction matters to how she frames the show: its women may drink, but Gupta does not present that behavior as a requirement or definition of empowerment. She emphasizes control over one’s own life, desires, and wants instead.
A story about friends, not only one gender
In a January 22, 2019 interview with The Indian Express, Gupta described the series as centered on a group of women while remaining open to a broader reading: “While it’s about a gang of girls, the story is not exclusive to one gender. It can be a story of any group of friends. The show talks about people in general.”
Rank #2
That perspective brings friendship alongside agency. The characters’ gender shapes the situations the show explores, but Gupta sees the bonds and conflicts among friends as recognizable beyond that group.
Damini’s look during season 3
Gupta also recalled a practical detail of playing Damini: maintaining the character’s short haircut required frequent trims during production. In a Hindustan Times interview updated October 26, 2022, she said, “My hair grows quick so I had to get haircuts every week.” This is her recollection of filming, not a general production rule.

Gupta’s reported role in Margarita With A Straw
Gupta is reported to have played Khanum, opposite Kalki Koechlin, in Margarita With A Straw. The available report identifies Khanum as visually impaired, but that detail is supported here only by a search-result extract from Scroll.in, rather than a directly accessible interview or article. The evidence therefore supports the role identification more cautiously than the detailed, first-person comments about Damini and Four More Shots Please!.

The interviews present Gupta’s view of the show through its character and themes: a woman with agency, complicated friendships, and experiences that are not meant to stand only for one gender. The 2019 interview described the series as an Amazon Prime Video original scheduled to begin streaming on January 25, 2019; that is historical launch information, not confirmation of current availability in any particular country.
