The available reporting does not establish that Sara Ramirez was dating someone before their divorce became final—or that they are currently in a relationship. What it does establish is a timeline: Ramirez and Ryan DeBolt announced their separation publicly in 2021, while a 2024 divorce filing listed January 2018 as their separation date.
What is known about Sara Ramirez and Ryan DeBolt’s separation?
Ramirez and DeBolt announced their separation in July 2021. In the statement reproduced by The Independent, they said: “Ryan and I are no longer together. We remain loving and supportive in how we are choosing to forge our new individual paths.” They also asked for privacy as they navigated the process.

The public announcement date and the date listed in later court paperwork are different. The Independent reported that Ramirez filed for divorce on June 11, 2024, citing irreconcilable differences. The filing listed January 2018 as the date of separation. That is a date reported from the filing, not evidence of when either person may have started dating someone else.
When was the divorce expected to become final?
Us Weekly reported on August 6, 2024 that the former couple had reached a settlement. The report said neither would receive spousal support and that the marriage was expected to officially end on December 16, subject to a judge’s approval. TMZ’s contemporaneous report likewise said judicial approval was still pending.
#1 Best Overall
Those reports described an anticipated date conditional on approval. The coverage available here does not independently confirm whether or when a judge entered a final order, so December 16 should not be presented as a verified finalization date.
Does the timeline show that Ramirez was dating someone?
No. A filing that lists January 2018 as the separation date, followed by a public announcement in 2021 and a divorce filing in 2024, does not establish that Ramirez began another relationship at any point. The reporting reviewed for this timeline does not substantiate the claim that they were dating someone before the divorce was finalized, or that they are dating now. It also does not prove they have not dated anyone; their relationship status is simply not established by these reports.

The Independent also reported Ramirez’s description of the separation as “a very tender and vulnerable process,” and their comment that the prior relationship had “a foundation of real love.” Those remarks offer context about the separation, not evidence of a new partner.

- Reported separation date: January 2018, as listed in the 2024 filing described by The Independent and Us Weekly.
- Public announcement: July 2021, when Ramirez and DeBolt said they were no longer together.
- Divorce filing: June 11, 2024, according to The Independent’s report based on court documents obtained by People.
- Reported settlement: August 2024, with a December 16 expected end date subject to judicial approval.
- Dating claims: The reports cited above do not verify a partner before the divorce became final or a current relationship.
Because the settlement and expected end date were reported in 2024, they do not by themselves establish the divorce’s present court status or Ramirez’s current private life.
