Audrey also described a more hopeful mood after Barker returned to the family home. “I feel like him realizing that he potentially lost his entire family made him realize that he has to get his act together,” she said. She added, “I feel like it’s more of a hopeful energy from him.” The quotes are Audrey’s observations as reported in the March 2024 PEOPLE exclusive, republished by Yahoo Entertainment.
What was happening before the reconciliation
Evans filed for divorce in 2021. In 2022, Barker was arrested following an incident involving Evans and a daughter. The original charge was felony assault; subsequent reporting says Barker entered a best-interest plea to misdemeanor reckless endangerment and received probation. These are legal-reporting details, distinct from Evans’s account of the incident and Audrey’s later impressions of Barker.

In a March 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Evans discussed her account of what happened and the couple’s relationship. The account should be understood as her own recollection, not as a substitute for the reported legal disposition.
What Sara Evans said about getting back together
Evans told Entertainment Tonight in April 2024 that she and Barker had been back together for about two years, after counseling and substantial work on their relationship. She said her family was glad they had reunited: “everybody is so happy because our family is back together.” That statement is Evans’s retrospective account in the April 2024 interview; it is not Audrey’s quote.

What the interviews do—and do not—establish
The interviews document Audrey’s reported reaction and Evans’s account of the reconciliation at the time. They do not establish whether the couple remain together now or whether Audrey’s opinion has changed since the March 2024 interview. Nor should Audrey’s personal observations be taken as a general endorsement of reconciliation in relationships involving harm. In the March interview, Evans said she did not encourage every woman to make the same choice and that abuse is never right.
