Country singer Sara Evans said in 2024 that she and her husband, former football player Jay Barker, had reconciled after she filed for divorce in 2021. She described them as being back together for about two years, which places their reunion around 2022—not after a confirmed finalized divorce.

Evans discussed the relationship in the March 21, 2024 premiere of her podcast, Diving in Deep with Sara Evans, in an episode titled “The WHOLE Truth.” The episode description says she recounted the relationship, the pivotal moment that led to their separation and a divorce filing, and where they had landed by the time of the episode. In an April 4, 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Evans said, “So, we did that, and we’re now two years into being back together, madly in love.” Her wording makes the timing approximate: it points to a reunion around 2022, not a specific date. Read the interview.
How the divorce filing fits the timeline
Evans filed for divorce in 2021. Entertainment Tonight’s March 21, 2024 report described her as reconciled with Barker after that filing and also referenced his 2022 arrest. The available reports establish the filing, but do not establish that the divorce was finalized. Calling this a reconciliation “after divorce” would therefore overstate what is documented. Evans said counseling and introspection were part of the work of getting back together. She also said her family was happy they were back together; that is her account of her family’s response, rather than an independently reported statement from family members.
Evans’s caution about safety
While describing her personal decision, Evans said, “I would never encourage anybody to stay in a dangerous situation.” That qualification matters: her account of reconciliation is not advice to remain in a relationship that feels unsafe. The latest direct status statements in the sources cited here are from 2024. They establish that Evans said she and Barker had reconciled by then, but they do not verify whether the couple remains together in October 2026.
