South Fremantle’s Jake Florenca won the 2026 Sandover Medal, while Swan Districts’ Jaime Henry took the Dhara Kerr Medal, at WA football’s formal awards night at Crown Perth on Monday, 14 September. What the Sandover Medal recognizes
The Sandover Medal is the WAFL’s annual fairest-and-best award. The league’s official history dates its annual presentation to 1921. After each match, the three field umpires confer and award 3, 2 and 1 votes to the players they judge best, second best and third best; the eligible player with the most votes across the home-and-away season wins. The voting system has changed over time: 5-4-3-2-1 was used from 1985 to 2018, while the current 3-2-1 system also applied from 1930 to 1984. Before 1930, each match carried one vote. Tied winners have each received a medal since 1985.
