Sarah Paulson named actress Trish Hawkins as the person who sent her six pages of notes after Paulson performed Talley’s Folly at the Roundabout. Paulson recounted the episode on a May 2024 episode of the SmartLess podcast; her account is the basis for the story.
What Sarah Paulson said happened
On the May 13, 2024 episode of SmartLess, Paulson told hosts Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett that her mother had brought Hawkins to see her in Lanford Wilson’s play Talley’s Folly at the Roundabout. Paulson said Hawkins had previously played the role Paulson was performing.
Paulson recalled Hawkins looking her up and down and saying, “Your dress is yellow, mine was pink.” According to Paulson, an email arrived two days after the performance with six pages of notes about Hawkins’s own experience in the play and recommendations for what Paulson should do. The podcast transcript and contemporaneous reports from The Independent and Us Weekly recount the anecdote.
Paulson’s reaction to the email
Paulson described the episode as “outrageous,” adding: “Trish Hawkins, I have not forgotten it and I hope to see you never.”

That is Paulson’s recollection of the encounter and the email. The email itself has not been published in the cited accounts, so its contents and Hawkins’s intent cannot be independently assessed from them.
