At the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, Kelly Rowland had a tense exchange with a female security guard at the May 21 premiere of Marcello Mio. The following day, actress Massiel Taveras confronted a guard described in contemporaneous coverage as the same woman while posing on the Palais des Festivals steps before The Count of Monte Cristo. The reporting documents the encounters and the women’s reactions, but does not establish the guard’s identity or motive.
What happened with Massiel Taveras at Cannes?
On May 22, 2024, Taveras arrived at the The Count of Monte Cristo premiere wearing a gown whose long train featured a portrait of Jesus. Video and contemporaneous accounts show a confrontation as she posed on the staircase and a female guard ushered her toward the venue. The Independent’s May 27 report covered the encounter; in a June 4 TMZ interview, Taveras said she had been trying to get a photograph of her dress.
The accounts describe what happened differently in emphasis: the footage shows the exchange, while Taveras explained her own purpose for stopping to pose. Neither the footage nor the cited reporting establishes what the guard intended.
Was it the same guard who clashed with Kelly Rowland?
Rowland’s exchange took place the day before, on May 21, as she walked the Palais des Festivals staircase ahead of the Marcello Mio premiere. The Los Angeles Times reported on May 31 that coverage linked the guard in the two incidents as the same female guard. The cited reporting did not publicly identify her, so her name should not be treated as confirmed.

Rowland later addressed the exchange, saying, “The woman knows what happened. I know what happened. I have a boundary, and I stand by those boundaries, and that is it,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Her statement affirms her position but does not spell out the full interaction or establish the guard’s motive.
What did Taveras say about Rowland and the incident?
Taveras publicly praised Rowland’s handling of the earlier encounter. The Independent reported that Taveras said she was “tired of the abuse.” Those were Taveras’s words and characterization of the situation, not an independently established finding about the guard’s intent.
The Los Angeles Times also reproduced wording from Taveras’s Instagram post, including “This is definitely a historical moment to remember” and “It wasent Right the way she treat us.” The second phrase is reproduced with the spelling reported by the newspaper.
What is known about Taveras’s gown—and what is not?
Coverage described the dress as having a long train with a portrait of Jesus. The available reporting also says Taveras was posing for photographs when the exchange occurred. It does not establish her full purpose in wearing the gown or what the image meant to her, so those details should not be inferred from the garment alone.

- The two encounters occurred at separate Cannes premieres on May 21 and May 22, 2024.
- Contemporaneous coverage connected the guard in both incidents, but did not publicly identify her.
- Rowland and Taveras each made public comments about their experiences; their statements should be attributed to them.
- The cited coverage does not establish the guard’s motive or a formal finding of bias.
The Los Angeles Times article also discusses allegations and a lawsuit involving a separate Ukrainian model. That legal matter concerns a different incident; it is not evidence about Taveras’s exchange, and the cited reporting does not establish a ruling on those allegations.
