Online concern about Serena Williams’ appearance followed a video she shared while recovering from a knee injury, but appearance alone does not establish a health problem. Williams has spoken publicly about using Zepbound in 2025; neither that interview nor the later reports establish her current medication status or a verified amount of weight loss.

What prompted the concern about Serena Williams?

A July 23, 2026 report by IBTimes UK connected the fan reaction to a TikTok video Williams posted during recovery from a knee injury. The caption reproduced in the report said, “Looks like my knee is getting better. Finally!” Some commenters asked, “What’s going on with her?” and wrote, “Hope she’s OK.” Those were reactions to her appearance, not clinical observations.

The same report included criticism of the scrutiny, including one commenter’s response: “They clown you for being fat, they clown you for being skinny. You can’t win.” The comments do not represent all fans, and they cannot establish anything about Williams’s health.

What has Williams said about weight loss and Zepbound?

In an interview published by ELLE on August 21, 2025, Williams said she had tried exercise and training to lose weight after the birth of her second child, then decided to try a GLP-1 medication. She said she was using Zepbound through Ro at the time of the interview. This is a dated, first-person account; it does not confirm whether she uses the medication now.

Williams also cautioned against judging body composition by appearance: “No, I actually weigh more than I look. I have a ton of muscle on me.” The interview did not establish a verified total amount of weight she had lost. Williams’s anecdotal description of walking 30,000 steps a day was part of her account of earlier efforts, not an independently measured statistic.

The ELLE article identified Williams as a Ro ambassador and disclosed that her husband, Alexis Ohanian, was a Ro investor and board member. That relationship is relevant context for her account of using the service, not independent evidence about the treatment or her current health.

What is known about her knee injury?

The appearance-related comments came during a documented period of knee recovery. The Associated Press reported in 2026 that Williams returned to Wimbledon singles after nearly four years away and tweaked her right knee during her match. That reporting supports the knee-injury context; it does not link the injury to perceived weight change.

How has Williams described changes to her body before?

In a 2018 interview published by the US Open, Williams discussed how her body felt after pregnancy. She said, “I actually weigh less than I did before I got pregnant, but it’s distributed differently now.” She also said, “I’m still waiting to get to be the Serena that I was, and I don’t know if I’ll ever be that physically, emotionally, mentally.” These are her reflections from 2018, not an explanation of how she looks in 2026.

What can—and can’t—be concluded?

  • Williams discussed her Zepbound use in a 2025 interview, but that does not establish her current medication status.
  • The reporting documents a knee issue and a video shared during recovery. It does not establish a new health diagnosis based on her appearance.
  • No verified total weight-loss figure is established by the cited reporting.
