Selma Blair says a period of burning, reactive skin made her wary of trying products; finding a routine she could tolerate later brought relief and helped her feel more at ease with her skin. In a September 2025 interview with NewBeauty, she discussed that experience, her collaboration with Australian skincare brand ESK, and the fatigue and social strain she associates with multiple sclerosis (MS). Her account is personal testimony, not medical evidence that a product treats a skin condition or MS.
What Blair says happened to her skin
Blair told NewBeauty that her skin had become reactive and acneic, with symptoms including burning and difficulty tolerating products. She also described dermatitis and lesions, and discussed perimenopause and a treatment that brought on early menopause. Those details are her account in the interview; it does not establish a diagnosis or independently verify the causes.
She said the experience made her fearful of trying many products. Her confidence story is closely tied to the relief she felt when she believed her skin had improved. “It is such a relief to have known skin that has fallen apart and to put it back together,” she said. That captures her experience rather than a measurable claim about a particular product.

Calming Cleanse: a cleanser she says she tried first
Blair said an aesthetician introduced her to ESK Calming Cleanse. She reported that tightness and burning began to abate after its first use. Ultimate A Gold: a later collaboration
Blair said she worked with ESK’s Dr. Ginni Mansberg on Ultimate A Gold, a product shaped by her wish for a simple nightly step. Dr. Mansberg described the brief as a single daily product intended to address collagen, pigmentation, skin-cell renewal, and skin-barrier support. Those were the collaborators’ aims; the interview does not independently demonstrate that the product achieves them.
The interview was published September 24, 2025, and included a commission disclosure. At that time, it listed Ultimate A Gold at $100 and described it as a four-month supply in Dr. Mansberg’s remarks. ESK’s partnership page, viewed October 8, 2026, listed the product and Calming Cleanse, displaying $125 for full size and $62.50 for travel size. The page’s retrieved text did not make the currency explicit; displayed prices can change, so check the seller’s current listing for price, size, and currency.

How Blair approaches her routine now
Blair said she wears sunscreen, sticks with products that work for her, seeks out someone she trusts, and keeps her routine fairly simple. She explained that simplicity suits her busy life as a single parent: “I still keep it pretty simple, because I’m still a single mom, my kid is a teenager and I get really easily distracted, so I like the fun lipsticks and the easy things.”
Her comments are a description of personal choices, not a universal regimen. The interview does not provide a clinical comparison of these products with alternatives or research statistics establishing their effects.

What confidence means in her account
Blair described feeling relieved as her skin seemed to recover, and said people had complimented it. The confidence angle is therefore grounded in her own perception and social experience: being less distressed by her skin helped her engage with it more calmly. It should not be read as a promise that a skincare product will improve another person’s confidence or emotional well-being.

The interview is not only about skincare. Blair discussed MS-related fatigue and the social difficulty of cancelling plans when she needs to rest. She said, “But I do wish people could understand it’s not personal. It doesn’t mean there’s something better to do.” Her point is about how chronic illness can affect social commitments; neither ESK product is presented as a treatment for MS or its symptoms.
