She filed a civil lawsuit in New York in November 2023. Combs denied the allegations. They remain allegations, not findings of fact.
What Joi Dickerson-Neal alleged
According to the complaint as described in contemporaneous reporting, Dickerson-Neal said she went to dinner with Combs in Harlem in 1991. She alleged that he drugged and sexually assaulted her, recorded the assault without her knowledge, and later showed the footage to people in the music industry. The allegations are described in Associated Press reporting; they have not been established by a court.

Why she filed in 2023
Dickerson-Neal filed the suit on November 23, 2023, near the close of New York’s temporary Adult Survivors Act filing window. The law opened a one-year period for eligible survivors to bring civil claims over older alleged sexual offenses, even where ordinary limitation periods would otherwise have barred a case. ABC News’ timeline describes the filing and the law’s context.
Combs’s response and the court’s ruling
Combs denied Dickerson-Neal’s allegations. His lawyers also argued that some of the statutory claims in the original case could not apply to conduct alleged to have occurred in 1991 because the cited laws were enacted later, as reported by the Los Angeles Times and the Associated Press.

On February 13, 2025, New York Supreme Court Justice Lyle E. Frank denied Combs’s motion to dismiss the claims that remained against him. Frank wrote: “The behavior alleged here is extreme and outrageous, and if true would be intolerable for a civilized community.” The words “if true” are crucial: the ruling allowed the claims to proceed; it did not determine that the alleged events happened. The order is discussed in Diddy Docket’s case-status report.
Latest reported status of the case
A case-status report published August 31, 2026, says Dickerson-Neal amended her complaint and dismissed the two company defendants with prejudice, leaving Combs as the sole defendant on claims of assault, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The report says both sides submitted a proposed discovery confidentiality order on August 20, 2026, but the copy it reviewed still had blank lines for the judge’s signature and date. It found no later scheduling order or confirmation that a discovery stay had ended. This is the latest status located in that report, not confirmation of what happened after August 31, 2026.

What the case does—and does not—establish
This is a civil lawsuit based on Dickerson-Neal’s allegations about an alleged 1991 incident. Combs has denied them. The dismissal-motion ruling concerns whether the remaining claims could proceed, not whether the allegations are true. The August 2026 report describes a case continuing against Combs alone, but does not establish a final judgment or outcome.
