Scott Adams’s net worth was estimated at $20 million at the time of his death in January 2026, according to Celebrity Net Worth. That figure is a published estimate, not a verified accounting: the sources available do not provide an audited balance sheet or itemized estate inventory to confirm it.
What the $20 million estimate means
Celebrity Net Worth gives Adams’s net worth as $20 million at his death and says its figures are estimates unless otherwise indicated. Its page does not provide an asset-by-asset calculation or methodology for this figure. It should therefore be described as a reported estimate—not as confirmed cash, a guaranteed estate value, or a sum independently established by public records.
Net worth is the value of assets minus liabilities. It is different from annual income, gross sales, or the total revenue associated with a commercial property. The sources do not itemize Adams’s assets, debts, taxes, contractual shares, or other liabilities, so they cannot establish how the estimate was calculated.
How Dilbert created the basis for his wealth
Adams’s best-known commercial property was Dilbert, the office-worker comic strip. Its business extended beyond newspaper syndication into books, licensing, merchandise, advertising and an animated television series. The Associated Press described bestselling books, merchandise, Office Depot commercials and the animated series as parts of the wider commercial footprint.

Those activities help explain the potential for substantial career earnings, but they do not reveal Adams’s personal take. Gross audience reach or book sales cannot be converted into his net worth without information about publisher and distributor shares, operating costs, taxes, contracts and liabilities.
Dilbert’s historical reach
In a 2013 interview, Forbes reported the following figures for the strip and its books. They describe the scale reported at that time, not current circulation or sales.

What changed after newspaper cancellations
In February 2023, Adams said newspaper cancellations had put a large share of his income at risk. CBS MoneyWatch quoted him: “Already what has been announced is about 80% of my income.” The remark was Adams’s estimate of the announced impact at that point, not an audited account of earnings ultimately lost.

The available reporting serves different purposes: Celebrity Net Worth publishes the $20 million estimate; Forbes provides 2013 context on the franchise’s reach; CBS MoneyWatch reports Adams’s 2023 statement about cancellations; and the Associated Press reports his death and summarizes his career. None supplies a private financial statement or itemized probate inventory supporting the exact net-worth figure.
