Scooter Braun used Donald Trump’s September 15, 2024, post saying “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” as the setup for a brief public endorsement of Kamala Harris. In an Instagram Story, Braun wrote “Shake It Off Donald” and “Kamala 2024,” combining a reference to Swift’s song with an explicit campaign message.
What Braun posted—and what it meant
Braun’s Instagram Story paired two short phrases: “Shake It Off Donald,” a play on Taylor Swift’s song “Shake It Off,” and “Kamala 2024.” Yahoo Entertainment reported the Story on September 15, 2024, and characterized it as Braun endorsing Harris. The endorsement is clear from the second phrase; the first turns Trump’s attack into a Swift-themed retort. Yahoo Entertainment’s report describes the post.

How the posts fit together
September 10: Swift endorses Harris and Walz
After the presidential debate, Swift said she would vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. TIME later reported that an AI-generated image falsely depicting Swift as a Trump supporter had prompted her to clarify her position. TIME’s retrospective reproduces Swift’s wording: “I will be casting my vote for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz in the 2024 Presidential Election.”
September 15: Trump posts about Swift
Five days after the endorsement, Trump posted “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on Truth Social. The Washington Post reported that Trump’s post did not itself mention Swift’s endorsement; the connection between the two events is their timing and context, not an explanation supplied in the post. The Washington Post’s account reports the post and its timing.

Braun responds on Instagram Stories
Braun’s “Shake It Off Donald” and “Kamala 2024” Story followed Trump’s post and turned the exchange into a brief political endorsement. Contemporary coverage establishes the sequence, but does not establish a precise minute-by-minute interval between the two posts.
What the audience figures do—and do not—show
The attention around Swift’s endorsement generated two reported figures, but they measure different things. The Washington Post reported about 338,000 visits to Vote.gov in the 15 hours after Swift’s post. That is a measure of website traffic, not registrations or votes. Reuters reported more than 9 million likes on Swift’s endorsement post as of its September 15 coverage; likes likewise do not establish that viewers registered, changed their vote, or were persuaded. The Washington Post reported the visits, while Reuters via Investing.com reported the likes.

Why did Trump say he hated Taylor Swift?
The post itself did not state a reason. Its timing followed Swift’s endorsement of Harris and Walz, but the available reporting does not establish Trump’s private motive. It is accurate to describe the post as coming in the wake of her endorsement, not to claim certainty about why he wrote it.
