In August 2022, Sam Frost said she did not plan to take Jordie Hansen’s surname if they married. She described the choice as personal, tied to her identity and family, and said Hansen had accepted it from their first date.
Why Sam Frost planned to keep her surname
PerthNow reported on 16 August 2022 that Frost had shared her wedding plans in an Instagram Story. She said: “I don’t plan on changing my surname. I told Jord that on our first date, to manage expectations,”
Frost said she felt uncomfortable changing her name because she was deeply connected to it as part of her identity and family. As PerthNow reproduced her explanation: “I love that people do, it’s a beautiful commitment, But for me I’ve always felt uncomfortable about it. It’s my identity, it’s my family and I feel deeply connected to my surname.”
She said Hansen had accepted her decision without hesitation, replying: “that’s fair enough, why should you change your name?” 7NEWS and Now To Love also reported at the time that Frost intended to keep her surname.

What Frost said about her future children’s surname
After someone questioned how she would explain having a different surname from her future children, Frost said the children would use Hansen. She said she would tell them that she had chosen not to change her own name. 7NEWS reported this response alongside her original explanation.
What later reporting said about the wedding
A 7NEWS interview report dated 19 July 2023 said the couple had put wedding plans on hold. Frost said she was the one “putting the brakes on it,” citing the expense, the couple’s goal of buying a house, and having a baby. She also said they would marry eventually.

That 2023 report does not establish whether the couple later married or whether Frost changed her surname. The 2022 announcement describes what she planned at that time, not a verified account of her present marital or surname status.
