Why did the charities act?
The decisions followed publication of reporting about a 2011 email attributed to Ferguson and addressed to Jeffrey Epstein. TIME reported Julia’s House saying it had “taken the decision that it would be inappropriate for her to continue as a patron of the charity.” That is the charity’s stated reasoning as reported; it should not be confused with the reported contents of the email itself.
Teenage Cancer Trust separately said it had decided to end its relationship with Ferguson. The Independent quoted the charity saying, “We have made the decision to end our relationship with the Duchess of York, and as of today she is no longer a patron of Teenage Cancer Trust.” The Independent reported their association had lasted 35 years.

What did the reported Epstein email say?
News coverage described the email, dated 2011, as apologizing for Ferguson’s public distancing from Epstein and quoted her calling him a “supreme friend.” These are descriptions and quoted wording from reports, not an independent authentication of the original email here. The email was reported as an earlier message, not a newly written one.
What happened later to Sarah’s Trust?
In February 2026, the Associated Press reported that Sarah’s Trust, a charity founded by Ferguson, would close for the foreseeable future. AP quoted the trust saying Ferguson and its board had agreed to the closure. The trust also said the decision had been under discussion and in train for some months. This was a separate development; the statement does not establish that the 2025 charity decisions caused the closure.
