Qué ocurrió y por qué perdió el título
A finales de noviembre de 2025 circuló en redes una imagen de Dzafce tirando de las comisuras de los ojos. La publicación incluía el texto finlandés “Kiinalaisen kaa syömäs”, traducido por la prensa como “comiendo con un chino”. La imagen y el texto fueron interpretados ampliamente como una burla racista de rasgos de personas de Asia oriental. Esa interpretación pública explica la controversia; por sí sola, no demuestra cuál era la intención de Dzafce.
El 11 de diciembre, la Organización Miss Finlandia anunció que retiraba el título con efecto inmediato. En la transcripción de su comunicado, la entidad dijo que el contenido difundido en las redes de la titular era ofensivo y dañino, y que no era compatible con los valores del certamen. Añadió: “El racismo nunca es aceptable en ninguna forma”. Associated Press informó de la decisión y reprodujo esa declaración.
Cronología del caso

Qué dijo Sarah Dzafce
En su disculpa del 8 de diciembre, Dzafce describió el título como una responsabilidad, además de una corona: “Una responsabilidad por cómo hablo, cómo actúo y cómo mis acciones pueden afectar a las personas”. También dijo: “Asumo la responsabilidad de mis actos y aprenderé de esto”. Las declaraciones fueron recogidas por Associated Press.

Sobre la imagen, medios finlandeses informaron que Dzafce explicó que el gesto buscaba aliviar un dolor de cabeza y que una amiga había compartido la fotografía privada y añadido el texto sin su intervención. Es la explicación atribuida a Dzafce; la autoría del texto y la intención detrás de la imagen no quedan establecidas de forma independiente por esas declaraciones. Associated Press y Helsinki Times informaron sobre esa versión.
Quién es la nueva Miss Finlandia
Tara Lehtonen, primera finalista del certamen, recibió el título en el mismo acto en que se anunció la retirada a Dzafce. La organización no presentó la decisión como una renuncia voluntaria: comunicó que quitaba la corona a la titular y la transfería a Lehtonen. Associated Press

Repercusiones fuera del certamen
Associated Press informó de reacciones en varios países asiáticos y de disculpas del primer ministro finlandés Petteri Orpo a varios países, mediante mensajes publicados en las redes de embajadas finlandesas. También señaló que políticos finlandeses repitieron el gesto. Esas repercusiones ocurrieron en el contexto de la polémica, pero son distintas de la decisión institucional de Miss Finlandia.
