What the Salakaar trailer is about
The series follows an Indian spy tasked with uncovering a secret nuclear facility in Pakistan. Its story moves between 1978 and 2025, connecting a covert mission from the past with its consequences decades later. The premise is presented as a spy-thriller narrative, not as independently verified history.
The makers describe Salakaar as inspired by real events. That description should be understood as the creators’ framing: it does not establish that the plot, characters, or events are a documentary account. In India Today’s coverage, Naveen Kasturia plays Adhir, a deep-cover operative whose earlier actions affect him later as National Security Advisor. The same report says the character is reportedly inspired by NSA Ajit Doval; it does not identify the series as a direct biography.

Cast and creative team
Faruk Kabir directed the series. The reported cast includes Naveen Kasturia, Mouni Roy, Mukesh Rishi, Surya Sharma, Purnendu Bhattacharya, and Ashwath Bhatt. India Today names Sphere Origins and Mahir Films as producers.
In a July 21, 2025 report, United News of India attributed this description of the series to Kabir: “’Salakaar’ is an intense spy thriller with a deeply emotional core – it is the legend of an extraordinary Indian spy. It’s not about action for the sake of spectacle; it’s about intelligence as strategy and silence as sacrifice. This series is my tribute to the unsung minds who fought not only with bullets, but with brilliance.”

Title spelling and release context
Salakaar is the spelling used in Scroll’s trailer headline and in the JioHotstar announcement. India Today used “Salaakar” in its headline, but the coverage refers to the same series. The July 29 trailer report and August 8 streaming date refer to the 2025 launch, not a current confirmation of access.
