Ryan Reynolds says he has ideas written for Deadpool’s future and expects another film eventually, but he does not think he should center the character again. In April and July 2026 comments reported by Variety, he described Deadpool as a supporting character who is especially effective in a group. Reynolds also wants him to remain an outsider to the Avengers and X-Men. Those remarks are not a studio confirmation of Deadpool 4: they establish no release date, format or specific Marvel team-up.
What Ryan Reynolds said about Deadpool’s future
In an April 2026 interview on Sunday Today, Reynolds said he had “some stuff kind of written,” but did not think he would center Deadpool again. As Variety reported, he called the character “a supporting character” who is “great in a group.”
At Fanatics Fest in New York City in July 2026, Reynolds said, “There’s eventually, you know, remotely another ‘Deadpool’ film. So it’s going to be great.” He also pointed to comic material by Deadpool co-creator Fabian Nicieza and writer Gerry Duggan as work he admires.
Does that confirm Deadpool 4?
No. Reynolds’s comments indicate that he expects another Deadpool film and has material in mind, but they do not confirm that Marvel has approved a project, that it will be called Deadpool 4, or that it will be a standalone sequel. Variety said Marvel had not immediately responded to its request for comment after the July remarks.

The April comments suggest Reynolds is more interested in Deadpool as part of a group than as the sole focus, but that is not a confirmed production plan. The reports provide no release date or confirmed format.
Why Reynolds wants Deadpool to remain an outsider
Reynolds has also explained why Deadpool should not become a member of the Avengers or X-Men. In a 2024 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, quoted in Variety’s April 2026 report, he said: “If he becomes either, we’re at the end.”

His point is about the character’s direction, not a confirmed plot. Deadpool can appear alongside a team without being accepted into it. Reynolds has described the character’s longing for acceptance—and his use of humor to cover shame and insecurity—as central to his journey. Becoming an Avenger or an X-Man would resolve that tension, in Reynolds’s view.

Wanting Deadpool to stay an outsider does not rule out a team-up. It distinguishes appearing with the Avengers or X-Men from joining them as a member. Neither distinction confirms that Deadpool will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, Avengers: Secret Wars or another specific film. Den of Geek described such appearances as rumor, and Variety reported Reynolds had played down speculation.
