Rusty Golden, born William Lee Golden Jr. and the son of Oak Ridge Boys singer William Lee Golden, died at his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee, on July 1, 2024. He was 65. A cause of death was not disclosed in contemporaneous reporting.
Who was Rusty Golden?
Golden was born William Lee Golden Jr. on January 3, 1959, in Brewton, Alabama. His family began calling him Rusty shortly after his birth, and he used that name professionally. His parents were William Lee Golden and Frogene Golden.
His father described him as “a great musician, a talented songwriter, and a wonderful son.” In a statement reported at the time, William Lee Golden wrote: “This is the hardest thing ever for a father to have to face. I love my family more than anything. Rusty was a great musician, a talented songwriter, and a wonderful son. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the days ahead. I love you, son.” Southern Valley News reported the statement.
What is known about his death?
Williams Memorial Chapel’s obituary says Golden died at home on July 1, 2024, aged 65. Contemporaneous coverage places his home in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The reporting said no cause of death was disclosed; the funeral-home obituary and his official biography do not state a cause either. There is no basis in those accounts to infer a cause from the fact that he died at home.
