Vance. Howard has discussed the reception of Hillbilly Elegy, the film he directed from Vance’s memoir, but comments about the movie do not establish Howard’s voting intention.
Is the claim that Ron Howard will not vote for J.D. Vance verified?
No. The sources available for this article do not establish that Howard said he would not vote for Vance. They also do not provide an original interview, post, or reliable report with the exact wording and context of such a statement. The claim should therefore be treated as unverified, not as a confirmed quote or fact about Howard’s vote.
What has Howard said about Hillbilly Elegy?
In a Daily Beast interview published October 29, 2022, Howard discussed the movie’s reception and said: “With that film, as you well know, reviewers and others were tougher on it.” He also described test audiences, including people from the region, as responding differently from reviewers. That is Howard’s account of the screenings and reactions; the interview does not provide an independently verified audience statistic.
How is the movie connected to J.D. Vance?
Hillbilly Elegy is a 2020 film adaptation of Vance’s memoir, directed by Howard, as The Daily Beast’s interview describes. The memoir and its film adaptation are related works, but directing the film does not by itself show what Howard thinks of Vance politically or how he intends to vote.
At the 2024 Republican National Convention, Usha Vance referred to her husband as the subject of a Ron Howard movie and to Hillbilly Elegy as his book, according to NPR’s account of her remarks. That reference likewise confirms the connection between Vance, the memoir, and the movie—not Howard’s voting intention.
