He also said work remained before a relaunch. That announcement established an intention to bring Rooster Teeth back—not that the company or its shows are currently active.
What did Burnie Burns acquire?
Burns said he had completed an acquisition of “the Rooster Teeth brand and many of its remaining properties.” Contemporaneous reporting described the deal as focused on the brand’s channels—including its website, YouTube channel and social accounts—and shows. It did not amount to acquiring the former company intact, and some properties associated with Rooster Teeth were outside the deal. Burns’s announcement and PC Gamer’s report describe the announcement and its scope.
Burns said, “There is a lot of work to do around here before our re-launch.” The plans reported at the time included bringing back some older shows and making new content; those were plans announced in 2025, not confirmation of a current release schedule or production slate.
Is Rooster Teeth active again?
The available reporting establishes the acquisition and the stated plan to relaunch, but does not establish Rooster Teeth’s operating status in October 2026. It does not confirm active productions, staffing, a publication schedule, or an official store. A specific show should not be described as currently returning without a newer official announcement.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The distinction matters because Warner Bros. Discovery shut Rooster Teeth down on March 6, 2024. General manager Jordan Levin attributed the closure to fundamental shifts in consumer behavior and monetization across platforms, advertising and patronage, as reported by Axios.
Is RWBY part of the Rooster Teeth deal?
No. RWBY followed a separate rights path. VIZ Media announced on July 5, 2024, that it had acquired RWBY and would own the franchise’s future distribution, production, licensing and consumer-product rights. That was before Box Canyon’s 2025 acquisition, and it should not be conflated with the Rooster Teeth brand deal. See VIZ Media’s announcement.

What the shutdown helps explain
Rooster Teeth’s closure was a major transition for a company whose business depended on digital platforms, advertising and audience support. Axios, citing Variety, reported that roughly 150 full-time employees faced layoffs. The same report cited a peak of about 225,000 paying members and about 60,000 at the time of the shutdown. Those figures provide context for the closure; they do not establish the size or structure of Box Canyon’s later operation.
