The Fender American Vintage II 1957 Stratocaster is a vintage-style re-creation built around a medium V maple neck, a 7.25-inch fingerboard radius and three Pure Vintage ’57 single-coil pickups. Fender’s published specifications make it a clearly period-inspired choice; they do not establish how a particular example feels or sounds in person, so players should try the neck and check the selected finish and current price before buying.
What the American Vintage II ’57 Strat is
Fender places this model in its American Vintage II series, recreating a 1957 Stratocaster through period-style specifications and hardware. The maker describes it as reproducing the original’s tone and feel, but that is Fender’s product description rather than an independent playing assessment.
Neck and fingerboard specifications
- Neck profile: medium V.
- Fingerboard: maple with a 7.25-inch radius.
- Frets: 21, described by Fender as vintage-tall.
- Nut: bone, with a listed width of 1.650 inches (42 mm).
These measurements are useful comparison points, not a substitute for trying the neck. The V profile and rounder radius may be unlike the neck shapes or flatter fingerboards a player is used to; the available specifications do not show that this model is easier or harder to play.
Pickups, controls and tremolo
The guitar has three Pure Vintage ’57 single-coil pickups in an SSS layout. Fender lists Alnico 5 magnets and a DC resistance range of 5.80–6.10 kΩ for each pickup position in its January 23, 2023 service document, revision A. Those electrical specifications describe the pickups; they do not, by themselves, establish how the guitar sounds.

Body, finishes and included case
Fender’s product overview lists two alder-body finishes—2-Color Sunburst and Sea Foam Green—and Vintage Blonde over ash. It specifies a gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Fender’s product data has also shown a Black right-handed variant, so the available finish choices may depend on the live product selector, region or stock; verify the exact configuration you can order rather than treating the overview list as exhaustive.

In an August 12, 2026 report, MusicRadar said Fender had added finishes across the American Vintage II family, citing the 1961 and 1973 Stratocaster models as examples. That report did not identify a new finish for the 1957 model, nor does it establish current stock.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. What to compare before buying
When comparing the ’57 with another Stratocaster, focus on the details that change the instrument you will receive: neck profile and radius, pickup and control layout, tremolo and tuner hardware, body wood and finish, included case, and the price for the exact configuration. No verified side-by-side test or independent competitor price is available here, so a claim that this model sounds or plays better than another guitar would go beyond the published evidence.
