Richard Gere’s Longing follows Daniel Bloch, a wealthy New York bachelor who learns that his former girlfriend had a son after they separated 20 years earlier. The 2024 film is Savi Gabizon’s English-language remake of his earlier film; its trailer teases the consequences of Daniel’s discovery without revealing the full mystery.
What is Richard Gere’s Longing about?
Gere plays Daniel Bloch, who discovers that Rachel, his Canadian former girlfriend, gave birth to a son after their relationship ended two decades earlier. The distributor’s synopsis establishes that revelation as the story’s starting point.

Lionsgate’s trailer description calls the discovery “a startling secret from his past” and says Daniel is consumed by “the extraordinary twists of a new life he never could have imagined.” It also suggests that encounters reveal further layers of the mystery. Those descriptions set up the film’s premise, but do not establish the details of any later revelations.
Who made and stars in the film?
Longing is directed by Savi Gabizon, who also directed the earlier film on which this English-language version is based. Its principal cast includes Richard Gere as Daniel Bloch, Suzanne Clément as Rachel, and Diane Kruger as Alice.
