Celebrity breakups and separations reported in 2025
Jessica Simpson and Eric Johnson
Simpson announced in January 2025 that she and Johnson were living separately after 10 years of marriage, according to Us Weekly, which reproduced her statement. “Eric and I have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage,” she said. The statement also emphasized their children and asked for privacy. The public announcement date is known; the date they began living separately is not stated in the cited account.
Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban
Year-end coverage reported that Kidman and Urban had separated after roughly 19 years of marriage. The Standard reported a September legal filing and said it cited “marital difficulties and irreconcilable differences”; The Standard’s account should be read as reporting about the filing, not as an independently established explanation for the couple’s private circumstances. iHeart’s year-end roundup also covered the separation. A filing is not, by itself, confirmation that a divorce has been finalized.

Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer
On December 12, 2025, Schumer announced that she and Fischer had decided to end their marriage after seven years, according to Us Weekly. The outlet reproduced wording from her Instagram statement: “We love each other very much and will continue to focus on raising our son.” Cosmopolitan’s 2025 roundup also included the couple. What this selection can—and cannot—say about 2025
The cases differ in what the public record cited in coverage establishes. Simpson and Schumer had personal statements reproduced by an outlet; Kidman and Urban’s account includes reporting about a legal filing; Butler and Gerber’s separation timing was attributed to unnamed-source reporting relayed through another outlet. Those are different levels and kinds of confirmation, so the stories should not be flattened into a single claim about when or why each relationship ended.
