RedTube announced plans for an adults-only magazine in July 2016, but the contemporary reports available do not confirm that an issue was ever published. The proposal paired explicit photography with lifestyle and culture coverage, in print and digital formats; the headline’s suggestion that RedTube helped kill porn magazines is not established by those launch reports.
What RedTube announced
On July 27, 2016, XBIZ reported that RedTube officials were planning a magazine for readers aged 18 and older, with a debut expected in December. The proposed title would appear in print and digitally. Alex Taylor, then RedTube’s vice president of marketing, described it as a contemporary take on classic men’s adult magazines. He said, “RedTube has been a leader in the adult industry for 10 years, which makes the brand an excellent authority on what men enjoy.” (XBIZ, July 27, 2016)
LA Weekly reported two days later that the magazine would be based in Los Angeles and London, with its first newsstand issue planned for the holiday season. The publication’s own statement described an ambition to “build a bridge between the gentlemen’s periodicals of the pre-internet heyday and the multiplatform 24/7 online news cycle.” The outlet also said an inaugural editor would be named later. (LA Weekly, July 29, 2016)
What the proposed magazine was meant to contain
The announcement described more than a collection of adult photographs. The editorial concept combined explicit pictorials with coverage of art, culture, technology, vice, politics, media, and celebrity. LA Weekly characterized the project as a photo-heavy, adults-only gentlemen’s lifestyle magazine, while XBIZ emphasized its attempt to update the traditional men’s magazine for contemporary tastes.

That was the stated scope of the proposal, not a verified contents list from a published issue. The reports do not establish what any final magazine would have included.
Did RedTube Magazine actually come out?
The reporting establishes an announced plan, not a completed launch. XBIZ reported a December 2016 target, and LA Weekly described a first newsstand issue expected around the holidays, but neither account confirms that the issue reached readers. The available reports also do not verify publication of a digital edition, a final release date, or current availability.

The phrase is provocative framing, not a conclusion demonstrated by the announcement coverage. The reports situate RedTube’s proposal against the broader shift from print-era adult magazines to online video and news, but they provide no causal study or statistic showing that RedTube itself drove the decline of porn magazines. The defensible point is narrower: in 2016, a major adult video site proposed entering print and digital publishing with a magazine that deliberately invoked the older men’s-periodical tradition.
