In May 2026, he described himself as active and healthier than he had felt in years. That later update reflects Fripp’s own account as reported in interview coverage, not an independent medical assessment.
What happened to Robert Fripp?
Fripp became unwell while travelling in Italy in late April 2025, in connection with a Guitar Craft event. A report by Corriere della Sera said he arrived at Orio al Serio airport on 26 April with symptoms and was taken to a hospital in Bergamo for emergency care. The report said he had experienced symptoms before the trip but initially attributed them to reflux. Corriere della Sera’s Bergamo report and Guitar World’s coverage recounted the episode.
What treatment did he receive?
Coverage said Fripp was treated at Humanitas Gavazzeni in Bergamo and underwent two procedures, with stents placed. The local report also described a trifurcated artery; that detail comes from media reporting, not a medical record independently available in these accounts. Guitar.com’s report on the procedures also described the stent placement.
When did Fripp return to performing?
Corriere della Sera reported that Fripp performed with the Orchestra of Crafty Guitarists in Castione della Presolana on 2 May 2025, shortly after his hospital discharge. This documents what happened in his case; it does not establish a safe or typical return-to-performance timeline for other people recovering from a heart attack.

What did Fripp say about the experience?
In a public video update with Toyah Willcox reported by Guitar World on 12 May 2025, Fripp said, “My upbeat moment is, I’m alive.” He also described initially mistaking his symptoms for acid reflux. Guitar World’s account of the update relayed his comments.
How is he doing now?
In coverage published on 22–23 May 2026 of an interview with Uncut, Fripp described regular exercise and improved fitness, saying, “I have not been this healthy or balanced in years, perhaps ever.” He also said he did not feel a need to perform live. These are Fripp’s reported reflections on his own condition and priorities; the interview coverage does not supply an independent clinical evaluation. Rolling Stone Italia and Guitar.com reported the later remarks.
