The verdict and sentence
Jury verdict
On October 25, 2024, the jury found Simon guilty of all 19 felony charges. The counts included malice murder, felony murder, concealing a death, falsely reporting a crime and making false statements. The verdict established her criminal responsibility under the charges; it should be distinguished from the later sentencing decision.

Sentence
On November 21, 2024, Judge Tammy Stokes sentenced Simon to life in prison with the possibility of parole, plus 10 years for concealing Quinton’s death. Simon filed an amended motion for a new trial in September 2025. At a hearing reported by WTOC on January 9, 2026, her lawyer argued that she should be acquitted of the murder charges and receive a new trial on other counts. Those were defense arguments, not a court ruling. Filing the motion did not itself erase the jury’s conviction or change the sentence.

Why the legal stages matter
- Verdict: The jury found Simon guilty of the charged felonies on October 25, 2024.
- Sentence: The judge imposed life with the possibility of parole plus 10 years on November 21, 2024.
- Post-conviction challenge: The defense later asked the court for acquittal on murder charges and a new trial on other counts. That request is distinct from an appellate decision or an order granting relief.
