What the Netflix catalog count and language figures mean
Netflix said its international catalog included 22 Studio Ghibli films in 2024. The number describes the announced catalog, not a promise that all 22 were available in every territory or that the studio’s entire filmography was on the service. Netflix explicitly cautioned that distribution differed by title. 2024 catalog announcement.

- Physical editions: A fan guide identifies North American GKIDS Blu-ray and DVD editions. Confirm the exact release, included language tracks, and region compatibility before buying. Guide to viewing options.
- Digital purchase or rental: The same guide names Apple TV, Amazon Prime Video, Google TV, and Fandango at Home. Availability depends on the film and territory, so search the specific title in your local storefront.
- Theatrical screenings: Screenings may be another option, but schedules are event-specific; check local cinema listings for the film and date.
The viewing alternatives above come from a secondary fan resource that disclaims affiliation with Studio Ghibli; treat it as a starting point, not an authoritative statement of distribution rights or current stock.
How to use this guide today
- Start with your country: the 2024 announcements point to Max for the U.S. and Netflix for many territories outside the U.S. and Japan.
- Search the exact title in the service’s local catalog, especially for films with a distinct release window such as The Boy and the Heron.
- Check available audio and subtitles in the title listing or playback menu rather than assuming a language option is offered everywhere.
- If it is unavailable, verify a physical, digital, or theatrical option for that film and location.
These platform details describe announcements and windows from 2020 and 2024; they do not establish what is streaming now. Catalogs and rights can change, so a current local title search is the reliable final check.
