What happened at the detention center?
AOL reported that officers conducting routine checks at about 11:20 p.m. on December 26 found a motionless inmate in a cell with apparent blunt-force injuries. The inmate was identified as 42-year-old Christopher Kelly, Ollinger’s cellmate. The report said police described Ollinger, then 41, as taken into custody.
According to the same report, detectives said a physical altercation had occurred, and Ollinger was rebooked on an open-murder charge. Police homicide investigators were still investigating when the article was published. These are reported police allegations; they do not establish how a court would determine the case.

What was reported about the first court appearance?
The December 30 Las Vegas Review-Journal report said Ollinger briefly appeared in Justice Court. After his attorney raised concerns about his mental health, Justice of the Peace Eric Goodman told him, “Your attorney has some concerns about your mental health,” and, “They want you to go up and talk to the doctors.” The report said a competency evaluation was planned and that a District Court appearance was then scheduled for January 21, 2026. That was a reported future date at the time, not confirmation that the hearing took place or that the evaluation reached a particular result.
