Reba McEntire remembered her late stepson Brandon Blackstock as funny, mischievous and full of life. In her interview with People, she shared stories of his practical jokes and described the bond they built as he grew up. These are McEntire’s personal recollections, not a complete portrait of his private life.
How Brandon became part of McEntire’s family
McEntire said Brandon came into her life when he was about four. She married his father, Narvel Blackstock, in 1989, when Brandon was around 13 or 14. Brandon was Narvel’s son from a prior relationship; McEntire and Narvel also had a son, Shelby. Reporting says McEntire and Narvel divorced in 2015.

At family dinners, McEntire said, Brandon might move a guest’s parked car to the greenhouse. The owner would then have to walk out in the dark to retrieve it. The story, also reported by Us Weekly, adds another example to McEntire’s portrait of a playful family prankster.
McEntire called their relationship precious
McEntire summed up their bond this way: “My relationship with my stepson, Brandon Blackstock, was precious.” She also said, “Brandon is sorely missed, truly missed with his mischievousness and his love of life.” Her memories center on the child she helped raise and the humor she remembered at home.
