The likely match for “Read Our Interview With Aracely Jimenez of Sunrise Movement” is The Globe Post’s February 12, 2019 feature, “The Green New Deal: A Generational Fight Over the Future of America,” an interview with Sunrise Movement spokesperson Aracely Jimenez-Hudis. The title cannot be confirmed as an exact match, but the article’s subject and interviewee align. Jimenez-Hudis argued that climate action should be tied to public investment and economic and racial justice—and stressed that the Green New Deal resolution then under discussion was nonbinding, not a package of programs already put into effect.
Which interview is this?
The closest identified match is The Globe Post’s February 12, 2019 interview, headlined “The Green New Deal: A Generational Fight Over the Future of America” and subtitled “An Interview with Sunrise Movement Spokesperson Aracely Jimenez-Hudis.” The requested wording, “Read Our Interview With Aracely Jimenez of Sunrise Movement,” does not appear as that article’s headline, so the identification is likely rather than certain.
The interview came after Sunrise activists’ November 2018 sit-in at then-Speaker-designate Nancy Pelosi’s office and shortly after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Sen. Ed Markey introduced a Green New Deal resolution in February 2019. The Globe Post described the proposal as a framework linking major public investment in renewable infrastructure with a public-works and jobs vision. It also reported that Pelosi did not allow the requested Select Committee to be created.
What did Aracely Jimenez-Hudis say the Green New Deal meant?
Climate action tied to economic and racial justice
Jimenez-Hudis presented the Green New Deal as more than an environmental agenda. In the interview, she described a push to confront climate change while investing in working people and communities that experience its harms, and to address racial and economic inequality. That framing helps explain Sunrise’s emphasis on connecting climate organizing with broader questions about who benefits from public investment and who bears the costs of environmental damage.

A nonbinding resolution, not an enacted program
Asked directly about the resolution, Jimenez-Hudis said it was nonbinding and meant to steer the conversation. It set out a direction for policy debate; it did not itself create programs, appropriate funds, or guarantee jobs. The distinction matters because the interview discusses an organizing and political vision, not results that the resolution had already delivered.
How did she describe Sunrise’s organizing approach?
Jimenez-Hudis described Sunrise’s goal as building power to expose fossil-fuel influence across political parties and organize around the Green New Deal. She also cast young people’s participation as a source of hope and resilience, saying: “We’re bringing a message of hope and resilience to the climate movement. And having that message be spoken by youth I think inspires a lot of other young people to join us.”

The report quoted her describing Sunrise as a political home for young people that extends beyond voting and elections, and covered the organization’s connections with other justice movements. That title describes her role at the time of that report, not necessarily her present position.
E&E News also reported that Sunrise had launched more than 380 local hubs across all 50 states over the preceding three years. It said about 10,000 people were counted as active members for a movementwide presidential endorsement vote in 2019. These are historical figures as reported in 2020, not current membership totals.
