He was 56, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s obituary, republished by Yahoo Entertainment. Chan’s credits span supervising art direction on films including Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers: Endgame, as well as production design on Deadpool & Wolverine.
Ray Chan’s work across Marvel films and series
Chan’s Marvel career encompassed several distinct roles, rather than a single, uniform art-direction credit. The TheWrap account says he joined Marvel Studios on Thor: The Dark World as supervising art director. He later held that role on:

He was credited as art director on Spider-Man: Far From Home. His later production-design work included the series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the films Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and Deadpool & Wolverine, according to TheWrap. The Hollywood Reporter’s obituary also lists production design on Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
These titles show the range of Chan’s contributions: supervising art direction on large-scale Marvel productions, an art-director credit on another film, and production design on both film and television. The Television Academy’s profile identifies him as an art director and production designer and lists additional credits including Fool’s Gold and Children of Men.

Marvel Studios’ tribute to Chan
Marvel Studios leaders Kevin Feige and Louis D’Esposito remembered Chan as a friend and creative collaborator. In a statement reproduced by TheWrap, they said: “Ray was first and foremost a good friend to everyone at Marvel Studios. He was a talented collaborator who brought creativity and attention to detail to every frame of every movie he worked on, and who was able to bring out the best in each department he worked with.”
ComicBook.com also reported Marvel’s remembrance of Chan as an “incredible production designer” who helped imagine and design the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and as a friend and colleague who would be dearly missed.

What is known about his death
The Television Academy records Chan’s date of passing as April 23, 2024. The Hollywood Reporter obituary said he died near his home in Wales. The sources cited here do not establish a cause of death.
