How the plea relates to the 2020 shooting
The case was connected to a late-2020 gang-related shootout in which passenger James Adams was killed. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution’s account of allegations in an arrest warrant, prosecutors said Bennett was driving a car involved in the shooting. That allegation is case background, not what Bennett pleaded guilty to.

The Associated Press reported that prosecutors dropped 12 of the 13 counts, citing Bennett’s lawyers; the AJC reported that the dismissed charges included felony murder. Bennett did not plead guilty to murder.

Sentence and parole terms reported
The AJC reported a 20-year sentence: 10 years in custody, with the balance on probation. Its report also described credit for time served and a parole agreement. The Associated Press said the plea deal could make Bennett eligible for parole in as little as four months and that prosecutors agreed he should be released early on parole, attributing those details to his lawyers. Parole eligibility is not the same as confirmation of release.
At the plea hearing, the AJC reported, Bennett said: “First off, I want to say my heart goes out to my friend James Adams and his family.”

What is known about his status now
The 2024 reports describe the sentence and parole terms at the time of the plea. They do not establish Bennett’s current custody or parole status as of October 8, 2026.
