Kyle Sandilands later backed parts of her comments on KIIS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show. The sequence matters: Valance spoke first, and Sandilands responded afterward.
What did Holly Valance say?
In an interview with GB News’ Chopper’s Political Podcast, Valance looked back on growing up in Australia and said, “The Australia I grew up in was unreal. It was so fun and we didn’t seem to have all these problems.” She added, “The woke stuff’s really gone big in Australia,” according to PerthNow’s 18 March 2024 report.
Valance also criticised Thunberg, describing her as a “demonic little gremlin high priestess of climatism” and saying she did not understand why Thunberg was treated “as the goddess in classrooms.” She claimed, “All the kids are all coming home with depression and anxiety.” Those are Valance’s allegations and opinions as reported; the reports do not independently establish claims about children’s mental health or what is taught in classrooms.
How did Kyle Sandilands respond?
After Valance’s interview, Sandilands discussed her remarks on KIIS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show. PerthNow quoted him saying, “The people that are in charge are all woke, so every one of their dumb rules is for the benefit of everyone,” followed by, “Everyone’s got to be looked after.” He also said of Thunberg, “I hate that chick too.”

7NEWS’s account, published on 18 March and updated on 19 March 2024, also reports that Sandilands called the climate-change topic “bull****” when questioned about it. Together, the reports show him agreeing with Valance’s criticism of “woke” culture and voicing hostility toward Thunberg.
What else was reported from Valance’s interview?
7NEWS reported two additional remarks from Valance: “The government will fine you for breathing,” and, discussing sexuality and children, “I don’t think sexuality and children should be in the same sentence.” These are attributed statements, not evidence on their own that the government imposes such a fine or that a particular school practice is taking place.

What the reports establish—and what they do not
The coverage documents a public exchange: Valance made the initial remarks in an interview, and Sandilands responded on his radio show. It does not verify the broader claims made in the exchange about Australian rules, classroom teaching, climate messaging or children’s mental health. The reports supply no supporting statistical study on those questions, so the speakers’ claims should not be presented as established findings.
The 2024 reports described Valance as living in the UK and quoted her saying she planned to stay there; 7NEWS identified her as being from Melbourne. Those details reflect reporting at the time and do not establish her present residence. Separately, ABC News reported on 2 August 2026 that Sandilands had left the KIIS FM breakfast show after a dispute and launched a subscription podcast venture. That later development is biographical context, not a consequence established as related to the 2024 exchange.
