All four members of R.E.M. took the stage together on February 27, 2025, at Athens, Georgia’s 40 Watt Club—but as guests during Michael Shannon and Jason Narducy’s R.E.M. tribute show, not as an announced full-band reunion. They joined the performers for “Pretty Persuasion,” a song from R.E.M.’s Reckoning.
What happened at Michael Shannon’s show?
Shannon and Narducy were performing with their R.E.M. cover band at the 40 Watt Club, in R.E.M.’s hometown of Athens. Michael Stipe, Peter Buck and Bill Berry joined them for “Pretty Persuasion.” Mike Mills came on partway through, bringing all four R.E.M. members into the performance.

The appearance took place on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Jon Blistein’s contemporaneous report for Yahoo Entertainment, published February 28, 2025, describes the event.
Was it a full R.E.M. reunion?
No full-scale reunion was announced. The members joined an existing tribute-show performance as guests; the report characterizes it as an appearance at Shannon and Narducy’s cover-band show, rather than a return of R.E.M. as an active band.
