Qantas apologized after an in-flight entertainment problem on a Sydney-to-Tokyo Haneda flight left passengers unable to choose individual movies. The crew selected one film for all screens after some passengers requested it; media reports identified the film as Daddio, though Qantas did not name it.
What happened on the Qantas flight?
According to Qantas’s account reported by the Associated Press, a technical issue prevented passengers on the Sydney-to-Haneda flight from selecting movies individually. After some passengers asked for a particular film, the crew selected one movie to play across all screens. The Associated Press report said the crew later found they could not fix the screens for passengers who did not want to watch it.
Once passengers realized what was playing, the crew stopped the film and switched the cabin screens to a children’s movie, according to The Guardian’s report. The replacement was described as a family-friendly film, which Qantas said was its standard response when individual selection is unavailable.
Which film was shown, and what were its ratings?
News reports identified the film as Daddio, the 2023 film starring Dakota Johnson. Qantas did not identify the movie by name, so the title is a media-reported identification, not a title confirmed by the airline.

Qantas said it was reviewing how the movie was selected. The statements were attributed to a spokesperson; the reports did not name that person.
