“Let the Flowers Grow” is a duet by Peter Murphy and Boy George, released November 8, 2024, through Metropolis Records. Its unusual origin began when Murphy heard an unfinished Boy George demo on producer Youth’s phone while recording in Spain; Murphy asked to help finish it. The song later appeared on Murphy’s album Silver Shade.
How “Let the Flowers Grow” came together
Murphy’s official announcement says he was recording a new album in Spain with Youth, the Killing Joke musician and producer, when a melody from Youth’s phone caught his attention. Murphy heard a voice he compared to Roy Orbison’s and asked what the music was. Youth told him it was an unfinished Boy George demo.
Murphy asked to work on the piece with Youth. “In a matter of 20 minutes, we had ‘Flowers’ finished,” he said. The collaboration was released the next day, November 8, 2024, via Metropolis Records. Peter Murphy’s announcement and Pitchfork’s release-day report describe the encounter. Murphy is known for his work with Bauhaus, and Boy George for Culture Club; this track is a collaboration between the two artists, not a release by either band.
What the artists said the song is about
According to Murphy’s announcement, the song began as a personal-acceptance song about being gay, then expanded into a broader message about identity across race, gender, creed, and religion. That is the artists’ stated framing of the song, rather than a claim that every listener will interpret it the same way.

Boy George said he valued Murphy’s contribution: “I have always loved Pete’s voice and his writing on this adds a beautiful darkness. The production feels very epic, like Scott Walker.” He also said the song’s subject felt especially resonant amid public discussion of identity: “With everything going on in the world about identity, ‘Let The Flowers Grow’ feels very powerful. It makes me dizzy and proud.” These comments appeared with the release announcement.
Who produced the song?
Youth produced “Let the Flowers Grow” and helped Murphy complete Boy George’s demo. The finished track combines George’s initial songwriting with Murphy’s vocal and writing contribution, in a production George described as “very epic.”

Where the song fits in Peter Murphy’s releases
“Let the Flowers Grow” later appeared on Silver Shade, Murphy’s album announced on his official site on May 8, 2025. The album announcement lists the Boy George collaboration among its pre-release singles and offers CD, vinyl, and download purchase routes. It also mentions limited-edition vinyl variants; availability and shipping depend on the retailer and may change.
The song continued in alternate versions after the album release. Murphy’s news page lists a Juno Reactor remix as a digital single released December 5, 2025, and a Delerium remix announced January 16, 2026, for release January 23, 2026. These are later remixes of the collaboration, distinct from the original duet.
