Pee Wee said his falling out with producer AB Quintanilla and his departure from Kumbia All Starz grew out of a dispute over money and payment for recordings. He also said reports that he might pursue a solo career added to the tension. Those explanations were reported by People en Español on March 14, 2008, based on Pee Wee’s account; the article did not independently verify the payment claims or include Quintanilla’s response.
Why did Pee Wee leave Kumbia All Starz?
In an account reported by People en Español, Pee Wee connected his departure from Kumbia All Starz to money and delayed or missing payment for recordings. He said the issue came into focus during a promotional trip to Mexico for a new album, when group members wanted to know when they would be paid for their recordings.

Pee Wee said Quintanilla never paid him. The article also reported his account that the group members were told they were replaceable: “We were told that none of us were necessary [to the band], that we were all replaceable.” This describes Pee Wee’s version of the dispute, not an independently established finding about what was owed or paid.
How did solo-career reports add to the tension?
Pee Wee said tension also grew after reports circulated that he planned to become a solo artist. According to the 2008 article, those reports annoyed Quintanilla. Pee Wee’s account therefore described two connected sources of friction: the recording-payment dispute and speculation about his future outside the group.

What did Pee Wee say happened to his mother?
On the Univision program Don Francisco Presenta, Pee Wee said his mother called to tell him that Quintanilla’s new manager had given her 24 hours to leave a house Quintanilla had provided in McAllen, Texas. Pee Wee said she moved in with another of her children. He recalled, “That hurt me, because my mom means everything to me.” These details are also reported as Pee Wee’s account; the article does not independently corroborate the housing circumstances.

The available report is a People en Español article published March 14, 2008. It attributes the explanations and personal details to Pee Wee, but does not include AB Quintanilla’s response or documentary evidence about payments or the house. It refers only to a “new album” and does not name it. The clearest supported answer is therefore what Pee Wee said at the time: money and recording payments were central to the split, while reports of a possible solo career contributed to the strain.
