Patricia Heaton said in a 2020 interview that she had stopped drinking around July 2018 and felt better afterward. She also described eating mostly keto and trying to swim regularly. Those are her personal accounts—not proof of a clinically measured health transformation—and they describe her routine at the time, not necessarily today.

What Patricia Heaton said changed

In an interview with Nicole Pajer published by Parade on July 10, 2020, Heaton discussed changes she had made to her habits and how she felt. She said she had quit drinking in July two years earlier, which places the change around July 2018. She described previously looking forward to cocktails and sometimes having wine or Prosecco at lunch.

“I miss it terribly, but at the end of the day, I feel better,” Heaton told Parade. She also said her life had improved significantly. These are her observations about herself; the interview does not establish a medical cause or a specific health outcome.

Her reported exercise and diet, by year

Year and source What Heaton described What the account establishes
2019, AARP Barre class in the morning; AARP identified Pure Barre as her favorite workout. In a September 11, 2019 AARP interview, she said she had more time for diet and exercise after raising children while working. This is a snapshot of what she described then.
2020, Parade Mostly keto eating and an effort to swim 50 laps at least four or five times a week. She described this as her routine at the time, acknowledged sometimes falling off it, and said getting back into shape felt harder than staying in shape.

These interviews give two dated snapshots, not a controlled before-and-after comparison. The sources do not verify whether Heaton continued either routine after the interviews.

Why she said she stopped drinking

In the 2020 Parade interview, Heaton connected her decision with noticing changes in how she felt as she aged and wanting to be healthy for future grandchildren. She also reflected on hormones and alcohol. That is her personal reasoning, not individualized medical advice or evidence that alcohol affects everyone in the same way.

What she said swimming did for her mental health

Heaton said she listened to sermons while swimming and that doing so helped her mental health. This describes her experience; the interview does not establish swimming or listening to sermons as a treatment for mental-health conditions.

What is—and is not—known about the health change

The interviews document Heaton’s own descriptions of her habits and feelings. The sources provide no clinical measurements, diagnosis, or independent verification that her health was “drastically altered.” They also do not confirm her present-day diet, exercise, or alcohol use. The most accurate account is that she reported feeling better after stopping drinking and described nutrition and exercise habits she was pursuing in 2019 and 2020.

Heaton’s book Your Second Act: Inspiring Stories of Reinvention is about reinvention and personal stories; it is not a diet or exercise manual.
