Neil Young’s October 2025 message urged fans to avoid Amazon and buy locally, saying, “Soon my music will not be there.” At the time, reports said it was unclear whether he meant Amazon Music’s streaming catalog, physical albums sold through Amazon’s marketplace, or both. Later coverage reported a broader position: Young said his music would not be available on Amazon while Jeff Bezos owned it.
What did Neil Young announce?
In an October 2025 post on the Neil Young Archives, as quoted by contemporary reports, Young urged readers to “forget” Amazon and Whole Foods, buy locally and directly, and support local businesses. He wrote, “Soon my music will not be there.” The announcement was a warning of a coming change, not confirmation that his music had already been removed.

Young connected the appeal to his opposition to large corporations and to his view that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos supported a government that did not support ordinary people. Those are Young’s political judgments, as reported at the time.
Did he mean Amazon Music, or all Amazon sales?
The October announcement did not make the scope clear. Contemporary reports said it was uncertain whether “my music will not be there” referred only to streaming on Amazon Music or also to physical albums and merchandise sold through Amazon’s marketplace.

Later coverage reported a more sweeping formulation from Young: “My music will never be available on AMAZON, as long as it is owned by Bezos.” That later statement suggests a position broader than streaming alone, but it should not be mistaken for a clarification that was already present in the original October post. The reporting cited here does not establish when any removal took effect or verify the current status of every album, format, or marketplace listing.
Where can fans find his music instead?
Vinyl and CDs
In later reported remarks, Young pointed fans toward record stores for vinyl and CDs, consistent with his call to buy locally. Availability depends on the shop and release. The 50th-anniversary re-release of his 1975 album Tonight’s the Night is one announced physical-media option, but the announcement alone does not establish current stock, available editions, or which sellers have copies.

- UNPLUGGED originally released in 1993, was first recorded for an MTV Unplugged concert, along with additional live recordings. Young thoughtfully assembled a group of musicians he had recorded with over the years for this special aggregation that quickly became a collector's item as tapes were first shared from the show among his fans. The official live album is considered an acoustic one-of-a-kind release from Young’s 90’s canon.
Digital listening
Later coverage says Young named Qobuz and Tidal as high-resolution digital alternatives. That is a reported recommendation, not a guarantee that every recording or format is available on either service. Catalogs, audio formats, and subscription options can vary by country and change over time, so check the service in your region before subscribing.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why has Young’s position on streaming changed before?
Young withdrew his music from Spotify in 2022 and returned it in 2024. Reports at the time said he returned after Apple Music and Amazon also began carrying the podcast material he had objected to; staying off those services as well would have left his music with very few streaming outlets. That history illustrates the tension between protest and reaching listeners. It does not show that Young’s objections had disappeared.
Quick Recap
Rank #3

The album has been remastered from the original analog masters and includes the tracks“Song X,”and“I’m The Ocean”. Four of the tracks have been remixed from analog tapes byJohn Hanlon, as the originals were from digital mixes("I'm The Ocean", "Big Green Country", "Truth Be Known", "Throw Your Hatred Down")
What should listeners check before choosing an option?
- For physical copies: Ask a local record shop about the specific album and format you want; an announced reissue does not guarantee that copies are in stock.
- For streaming: Search Qobuz or Tidal in your country for the particular release, then confirm the format offered on your plan.
- For Amazon listings: Distinguish Amazon Music streaming from physical products sold on the marketplace. The October announcement left that distinction unresolved, and the cited reporting does not verify present-day availability.
