The October 2025 prediction that Apple would soon launch a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini was not fulfilled on that timeline. As of October 8, 2026, Apple has not announced either product in the cited official material. A new report says Apple may announce an Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, and smart-home hub on October 13, 2026—but that date is still in the future, and the products remain unconfirmed.
What the original prediction got right—and what changed
Ryan Christoffel’s October 7, 2025 9to5Mac article framed an expected Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini launch as a possible opening move in a broader expansion of Apple’s smart-home business. It also discussed a smart display, security camera, video doorbell, and tabletop robot as rumored future products. Those were forecasts and descriptions of rumors, not Apple announcements. Read the original 9to5Mac opinion piece.
The anticipated late-2025 launch did not happen on that schedule. On October 8, 2026, MacRumors reported, citing Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, that Apple may announce a new Apple TV 4K, HomePod mini, and smart-home hub on October 13. That is a report of a possible upcoming announcement, not confirmation from Apple that an event or launch will occur. See MacRumors’ October 8 report.
What Apple has actually confirmed about Apple TV 4K
Apple’s cited official product announcement is for the Apple TV 4K introduced on October 18, 2022. It identifies an A15 Bionic chip and support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. Apple offered two configurations: Wi-Fi with 64GB of storage, and Wi-Fi + Ethernet with 128GB, Gigabit Ethernet, and Thread networking. Apple also describes the device as capable of serving as a home hub for compatible accessories. Apple’s 2022 announcement lists the specifications.

- 4K High Dynamic Range (Dolby Vision and HDR10) for stunning picture quality
- Dolby Digital Plus 7.1 surround sound
- A10X Fusion chip for ultra-fast graphics and performance
- Voice search by asking the Siri Remote
Apple said that the 2022 model’s CPU was up to 50 percent faster and its GPU up to 30 percent faster than the previous generation. These are Apple’s launch-era comparisons, not independent benchmark results and not specifications for a rumored successor. The same announcement set a $129 starting price in 2022; that is a historical launch price, not a verified current price.
| Configuration in Apple’s 2022 announcement | Storage | Networking |
|---|---|---|
| Wi-Fi | 64GB | Wi-Fi |
| Wi-Fi + Ethernet | 128GB | Wi-Fi, Gigabit Ethernet, and Thread |
For a smart home, the Apple TV’s significance is not limited to streaming video. Apple says it can connect compatible accessories, support scenes and remote control, and act as a home hub. Thread networking is specified for the Wi-Fi + Ethernet configuration, so buyers should not assume the same Thread capability for the Wi-Fi-only version.

Why this could matter for Apple’s home strategy
A refreshed Apple TV alongside a HomePod mini and a dedicated smart-home hub would suggest that Apple is still investing in the home as a product category. The existing Apple TV already gives that strategy a concrete foundation: it can serve as a home hub, while the Ethernet model adds Thread for compatible accessories. A new screen or hub could broaden how people interact with connected devices, but until Apple announces products and capabilities, that is a possibility—not an established roadmap.
The rumored camera, video doorbell, smart display, and tabletop robot should be treated with the same caution. Their appearance in the 2025 article reflected expectations about Apple’s future lineup; Apple has not confirmed them in the cited materials. No market-size, shipment, or consumer-preference figures are established here to quantify how large such an expansion might become.

Siri AI is not confirmation of new home hardware
At WWDC on June 8, 2026, Apple previewed a next generation of Apple Intelligence and an updated Siri AI. Apple said Siri AI would be available as a beta later in 2026 on supported devices set to English, with availability varying by language and region. The announcement does not confirm that an unreleased Apple TV, HomePod, or smart-home hub will support Siri AI, nor does it specify what capabilities those products might have. Apple’s WWDC announcement describes the Siri AI preview.
