The trailer, titled Pink Floyd at Pompeii – MCMLXXII – Official Trailer, was published by Pink Floyd’s official YouTube channel on March 5, 2025. The channel’s description identifies the film as Adrian Maben’s 1972 production, digitally remastered in 4K from original 35mm footage. The trailer is a preview of the restored film, not a scene-by-scene guide to its full contents.
What the film shows
Pink Floyd filmed the principal performances at Pompeii in October 1971, playing in the amphitheatre without an audience. The original film was released in 1972. Its performance includes “Echoes,” “A Saucerful of Secrets” and “One of These Days.” It also includes Abbey Road footage of the band beginning work on The Dark Side of the Moon, connecting the Pompeii performance to the group’s next major album.
Nick Mason described the film as “a rare and unique document of the band performing live in the period prior to The Dark Side Of The Moon.” (Pink Floyd)

What changed in the 4K restoration
The restoration was scanned from the original 35mm cut negative. According to Sony Music’s release announcement, the negative was found in five poorly labeled cans in Pink Floyd’s archives. The restoration team reviewed and repaired each frame, with Lana Topham, the band’s Director of Restoration, leading the work.
Topham said: “The newly restored version presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with the additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after,” (Sony Music)

Steven Wilson mixed the audio for theatrical and home-entertainment releases. Sony’s 2025 announcement described 5.1 and Dolby Atmos mixes; the subsequent 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray announcement also lists stereo. Wilson said: “It was an honour to remix the soundtrack to accompany Lana Topham’s incredible restoration of the film, which looks like it could’ve been filmed yesterday.” (Sony Music)
