No. A brief Pikmin glimpse reported in promotional footage for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is a cameo, not confirmation of a Super Smash Bros. film or a Nintendo cinematic universe. Shigeru Miyamoto’s reported comments point away from an all-characters-together approach, though they leave room for future character introductions.
What the Pikmin appearance actually shows
GamesRadar reported on March 17, 2026, that a teaser for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie showed “a teeny tiny glimpse of a trio of Pikmin.” That supports describing the footage as a Pikmin cameo. It does not establish that Nintendo plans to bring its franchises together in a shared film series. GamesRadar’s teaser report identifies the figures in the promotional footage; Nintendo’s official film release describes the movie as animated and based on the world of Super Mario Bros., without announcing a broader crossover plan.
What Nintendo has announced about the movie
Nintendo and Illumination’s March 10, 2026, release describes The Super Mario Galaxy Movie as an animated film based on the world of Super Mario Bros. It says Universal Pictures would distribute the movie worldwide, with a U.S. release on April 1, 2026, and a Japan release on April 24, 2026; select territories were scheduled to open during April. The release does not announce a Super Smash Bros. movie. Nintendo’s official release is the clearest source for the film’s stated framing and release information.
What Miyamoto said about crossovers
In an April 1, 2026, report on his Polygon interview, GamesRadar quoted Nintendo producer Shigeru Miyamoto saying, “Right off the bat, I’ll say that unlike something like Super Smash Bros., I don’t think you’ll have a situation [where] all Nintendo characters would be joining.” He also described cameos as “a little bit of spice” and “secret cameos here and there.”

- Grow a squad of adorable Pikmin and save your planet
- Befriend different types of Pikmin and strategically use them to overcome obstacles, defeat enemies and more
- More difficulty options, lock-on targeting and optional hints make it easier for newcomers to learn and play
- Play new side-story missions featuring Olimar and Louie exploring planet PNF-404
- Work cooperatively in Story or Mission mode with a friend, or go head-to-head in Bingo Battle
Those remarks argue against assuming that the movies will assemble Nintendo’s full roster as Super Smash Bros. does. They are not a permanent ban on crossovers: GamesRadar also reported Miyamoto saying there might be introductions of characters in the future. The quoted statements are attributed here to Miyamoto as reported by GamesRadar from the Polygon interview. Read GamesRadar’s report on his comments.
Why a cameo is not a film announcement
A cameo shows that a character appears in a particular piece of footage or film. A greenlight or announcement would require an explicit statement that a Super Smash Bros. movie is in development or planned. The sources available here establish the reported Pikmin glimpse, Nintendo’s description of the Mario movie, and Miyamoto’s reported view of the crossover approach; they do not establish a Smash Bros. film announcement.

- Grow and guide the loveable Pikmin and explore a strange world in two different adventures
- Meet the Pikmin and use their miniature might to collect your ship pieces and return home in the Pikmin game
- Swap between Olimar and Louie and meet pluck more Pikmin on a treasure hunt in the Pikmin 2 game
- Both games support optional motion controls for another way to grow and guide your plantlike platoon
Nintendo’s official movie page also lists a Pikmin Bloom promotion for special Super Mario-themed decor Pikmin, running April 24 through June 23, 2026. That is a game promotion tied to the movie, not evidence of a planned film universe or a Smash Bros. project. Nintendo’s movie page records the promotion.

The cameo alone does not confirm one, and the official materials cited here do not announce a shared Nintendo cinematic universe. Miyamoto’s reported comments suggest that cameos can add flavor without committing the films to a Smash Bros.-style gathering of every character. Future introductions remain possible, but that possibility is not evidence that a particular crossover movie has been approved.
