Did Pixar announce a third Monsters, Inc. movie?
No official Pixar announcement is established by the available sources. TheWrap reported on March 6, 2026, that a third film was “in the works,” attributing the information to an unnamed insider with knowledge. That is a trade-news report about development, not a public confirmation from Pixar or Disney.
Pixar’s official feature-film catalog lists Monsters, Inc. (2001) and Monsters University (2013), but not a third film. The catalog’s omission does not establish that the project was canceled or is not being developed. It means the studio’s public catalog does not currently provide an official listing for it.
What is known about the reported film?
TheWrap’s report gives no title, director, writer, cast, plot description, or release window for the third feature. It also does not attribute the development claim to a named Pixar or Disney executive. There is therefore no confirmed basis to say what the film will be about or when it might arrive.

How the reported film differs from Disney’s Monstropolis park land
Disney has separately published official story details for a planned Monstropolis land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. That park project is not confirmation of the reported film, and its story should not be treated as the movie’s plot.

Pixar’s catalog includes two feature films in the franchise: Monsters, Inc. and its prequel, Monsters University. Pixar dates the original’s theatrical release to November 2, 2001, and Monsters University to June 21, 2013, in its studio history.

The original film established Monstropolis, a city powered by scream-energy appliances, and the connection between the monster world and Boo’s room through her distinctive door. Those are details of the existing film’s world, not information about what a third entry might contain.
