Spoilers for Peacemaker season 2, episode 8, “Full Nelson.” The finale ends with ARGUS sending Chris Smith to Salvation, a world Rick Flag Sr. intends to turn into a prison for metahumans. Meanwhile, Chris’s allies form Checkmate. The episode has no major DC character cameos, and James Gunn said after the finale that season 3 was not currently planned—though Peacemaker and Checkmate were expected to continue in the DCU in some form.
What happens at the end of Peacemaker season 2?
ARGUS discovers Salvation while exploring alternate dimensions with its Quantum Unfolding Chamber. The apparently habitable world becomes the centerpiece of Rick Flag Sr.’s plan: he wants to use it as a prison for metahumans.
Flag sends Chris to Salvation as its first prisoner and test subject, claiming Chris volunteered and presenting him with a falsified signature. The punishment is personal: Flag is seeking revenge for Chris killing his son, Rick Flag Jr. TheWrap reported the details of Flag’s deception and motive in its October 10, 2025 finale coverage (TheWrap).
The cliffhanger leaves Chris isolated on a world designed to contain people like him. His allies, however, have their own way forward: they establish Checkmate, a covert organization built from Leota Adebayo’s blueprint and their desire to do good. The finale explainer identifies Sasha Bordeaux, Langston Fleury and Rip Jagger, also known as Judomaster, among the people joining the team (TechRadar).

What is Salvation, and what does it mean for Chris?
In the series, Salvation is not a refuge for Chris: it is the remote prison Flag wants ARGUS to use for metahumans. The episode establishes that Chris has been sent there, but it does not show how he might escape or whether his friends will reach him.
The name also recalls Salvation Run, a seven-issue DC Comics series published from November 2007 to June 2008 about supervillains imprisoned on a planet. That is useful context for the concept, not evidence that the television story will reproduce the comic’s plot. TheWrap reports that Gunn adapts the premises of comic concepts rather than promising direct fidelity to a particular story (TheWrap).

What is Checkmate, and will it continue in the DCU?
Checkmate is the covert group Chris’s allies form at the end of the finale. Its creation gives the remaining characters a shared purpose while Chris is on Salvation, but the episode does not confirm that they will mount a rescue or reveal the details of their first mission.
Gunn told TV Insider that Checkmate would carry forward in the DCU and that the group’s circumstances would have changed by the next time viewers see them: “You’ll definitely see Checkmate carrying through. They’re a thing now, so they’re a part of what’s gonna happen, and I think they’re gonna be really, really good at what they do” (TV Insider). That confirms the team’s broader future, not a specific spin-off, release date or plot.

Are there any cameos in the Peacemaker season 2 finale?
No major DC character cameo appears in “Full Nelson,” according to TechRadar’s finale recap. That refers to the finale; it should not be confused with guest appearances or developments in earlier season 2 episodes.
Deadpool does not appear. Gunn told TheWrap he had pitched an unmade scene in which the group opened a door and found Ryan Reynolds’s character in a room. Reynolds was interested, Gunn said, but making the crossover happen would have required significant coordination. It remained a pitch, not a filmed scene or confirmed DCU crossover (TheWrap).

Will there be a Peacemaker season 3?
In comments reported after the finale on October 10, 2025, Gunn said there were no current plans for a third season. TechRadar also quoted him describing the episode as potentially the show’s last: “This is the final episode of Peacemaker season 2… [and] maybe the final episode of Peacemaker, really” (TechRadar).
That was a time-specific statement, not a confirmation that Peacemaker would never return. TheWrap reported that Gunn left the character’s future open, and his comments pointed to the character appearing again in some form. His separate confirmation that Checkmate would continue in the DCU also leaves the team’s story open, but neither statement establishes a season 3, a rescue storyline or a schedule. The available post-finale comments do not establish whether plans have changed since October 2025.
