Why was Harry at the Invictus Spirit Awards?
The inaugural awards recognize people and organizations in the global Invictus community and raised funds for the Invictus Games Foundation, which supports wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans. Harry served on the judging panel alongside Meghan.
In his speech, Harry recalled a 2008 flight home from Afghanistan with three seriously injured British servicemen and the coffin of a Danish soldier. ITV quoted him saying: “That flight stayed with me because it helped me begin to understand two things about the military that would shape the rest of my life: it gives you purpose, identity, belonging, a team; and in a matter of seconds, injury or illness can take it all away.” He said the experience was among the things that led him to start the Invictus Games in 2014.
