The film follows her effort to make sense of what is happening and protect her family.
What is Premonition about?
Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) appears to have a settled family life until she receives the news that her husband, Jim (Julian McMahon), has died in a car accident. Then she wakes to find him alive. As the events around her refuse to fit together in an ordinary way, Linda tries to understand reality and destiny and to save her family.
This spoiler-light premise is the starting point; the film’s shifting chronology is part of its mystery, so a fuller plot explanation would reveal later turns.
Who made the film, and who is in the cast?
Mennan Yapo directed Premonition, from a screenplay by Bill Kelly. Sandra Bullock plays Linda Hanson and Julian McMahon plays Jim Hanson. The cast also includes Nia Long, Kate Nelligan, Amber Valletta, and Peter Stormare.

How was Premonition received?
Rotten Tomatoes displayed an 8% Tomatometer from 160 critic reviews and a 50% Popcornmeter from more than 250,000 ratings when checked on October 8, 2026. These are dated, changeable aggregator figures, not permanent measures of the film’s reception.
Rotten Tomatoes’ critics consensus describes the film as “Overdosing on flashbacks, and more portentous than profound, the overly obtuse Premonition weakly echoes such twisty classics as Memento, The Sixth Sense, and Groundhog Day.” Those titles are comparisons made by the site’s consensus; they should not be taken to mean the films share the same plot or genre.
