Prime Video did not renew The Wheel of Time after three seasons, TheWrap reported on May 23, 2025. The fantasy drama had strong Rotten Tomatoes critics’ scores—its third season was listed at 98% when checked—but that rating does not reveal how many people watched or why the series was canceled.
What Prime Video canceled
The series is The Wheel of Time, adapted from Robert Jordan’s fantasy novels. TheWrap reported that Prime Video would not renew it after three seasons. Sony identifies the series as a Prime Video title and says it was co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios. TheWrap’s cancellation report and Sony’s series page support those details.
The available reporting establishes the cancellation, but not a definitive explanation from Prime Video. It does not support presenting production costs, falling viewership, or any other proposed cause as the company’s confirmed rationale.
How highly rated was it?
Rotten Tomatoes listed these season critics’ scores when checked: Rotten Tomatoes’ listing identifies the measure as critics’ scores, not viewing figures or audience scores. The ratings can change as the site updates its listings.

| Season | Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score |
|---|---|
| Season one | 81% |
| Season two | 86% |
| Season three | 98% |
Season three had the highest critics’ score of the three on the listing at the time checked. That offers context for calling the drama highly rated, but it cannot establish the show’s audience size or explain the renewal decision.
What the cancellation means for the story
The television series adapts Robert Jordan’s books, but it is not a one-to-one transcription. Amazon says season three adapts The Shadow Rising, the fourth novel in the series. Amazon’s description of season three provides that book connection.

The series ending after three seasons therefore does not mean the full book story ends there. Viewers who want to start the novels can begin with The Eye of the World, the first book, rather than treating it as a direct continuation of the television production. Amazon describes the books as having sold over 90 million copies; the publication year for that figure is not stated on its character guide. Amazon’s guide also lists the show as fantasy, action, and adventure.

Amazon says all three seasons are available exclusively on Prime Video, and Sony also points viewers to Prime Video. Availability may vary by territory and can change, so check the local catalog before subscribing or planning a rewatch. Amazon’s series information and Sony’s page identify the service.
