Sony Interactive Entertainment said it closed Firewalk Studios and permanently sunset Concord on October 29, 2024. The company’s stated reason: the game had some strong elements, but it did not attract enough players, and Sony had not met its targets in a competitive player-versus-player shooter market.
What happened to Concord and Firewalk Studios?
Sony’s October 29, 2024 announcement made two decisions permanent: Concord would not return, and its developer, Firewalk Studios, would close. The game had already been taken offline on September 6, after an announcement earlier that month.
Why did Sony shut them down?
In an internal email, Hermen Hulst, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Studio Business Group, said that “certain aspects of Concord were exceptional, but others did not land with enough players.” He also described PvP first-person shooters as a competitive, continuously evolving genre and said Sony had not met its targets with the title. Sony said it had spent considerable time considering options before settling on a permanent sunset and studio closure. Sony’s October 29 announcement

Did Sony refund Concord players?
Sony said purchasers of Concord on PS5 and PC would receive full refunds. For purchases through PlayStation Store or PlayStation Direct, refunds were to go to the original payment method. Sony’s September 2024 notice said those refunds could take 30–60 days to appear on a bank statement; that was guidance at the time, not a current estimate or guarantee for an individual refund claim.
