Perry Farrell and Jane’s Addiction bandmates Dave Navarro, Eric Avery, and Stephen Perkins filed competing lawsuits over a September 2024 onstage altercation and the reunion tour’s cancellation. The cases were reportedly settled and dismissed on December 22, 2025; the terms were not made public in the reporting reviewed.
What happened at the Boston show?
The dispute began during Jane’s Addiction’s performance at Leader Bank Pavilion in Boston on September 13, 2024. Video captured part of the confrontation, but the parties later gave different accounts of what led to it and who was responsible.
The Associated Press described Farrell lunging toward and bumping Navarro before swinging an arm. Farrell’s later complaint characterized the initial contact as a body check after a disagreement over stage volume and alleged that the other bandmates escalated the confrontation. Those are competing descriptions, not findings established by a court in the reporting reviewed. The Associated Press reported on the incident and lawsuits.
Why did the bandmates sue Perry Farrell?
On July 16, 2025, Navarro, Avery, and Perkins sued Farrell in Los Angeles County Superior Court. They alleged assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract, among other claims. Their complaint sought at least $10 million for losses they attributed to canceled tour dates and suspended band activity. These were allegations; the sources reviewed do not report a court finding that Farrell committed the alleged acts. Pitchfork reported on the complaint and claimed damages.

Why did Perry Farrell file a separate complaint?
Hours after the bandmates’ suit, Farrell, his wife Etty Lau Farrell, and the band’s touring company filed a separate complaint against Navarro, Avery, and Perkins. Farrell’s side alleged a years-long bullying campaign, assault, and that the reunion tour was canceled without consulting him. His lawyers disputed the bandmates’ account of the Boston confrontation and events behind the scenes. Neither complaint’s allegations were resolved in a public trial in the sources reviewed. Why was the reunion tour canceled?
After the altercation, Jane’s Addiction canceled the 15 remaining reunion-tour shows. Navarro, Avery, and Perkins said the tour could not continue, citing Farrell’s conduct and mental-health difficulties. Farrell said he was blindsided by the cancellation and had not been consulted. The band later said it regretted making inaccurate statements about Farrell’s mental health. The parties’ explanations therefore differ both on the events leading to the cancellation and on who made the decision.

What did the band members say afterward?
Soon after the Boston show, Farrell apologized to his bandmates, particularly Navarro, and called his behavior “inexcusable.” In December 2025, he issued another apology: “I’ve reflected on it and know I didn’t handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”
The bandmates said they regretted their inaccurate statements about Farrell’s mental health and had come together to resolve their differences. They also said Jane’s Addiction would not continue. Their statements and Farrell’s apology do not establish the disputed allegations in either lawsuit as court findings.

Were the lawsuits settled?
Yes. Reporting says both cases were settled and dismissed on December 22, 2025. The available reporting does not disclose the settlement’s financial terms or other private conditions. A dismissal after settlement is not a ruling that either side’s allegations were true or false. AP reported on the settlement and dismissal.
