Washington County prosecutors released Ruby Franke’s journal and other case materials in March 2024, after Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt had pleaded guilty and been sentenced. KSL reported that the release included 60 pages of journal entries dated May through August 2023; that figure describes the pages KSL identified in the release, not necessarily the full journal.
What did Ruby Franke’s journal say?
KSL’s coverage of the released files described entries written between May and August 2023. The reporting presented the journal as part of a larger collection of records, videos and recordings. The available description does not establish that the released pages were the entire journal, or provide a complete inventory of every entry.
The reported material concerned abuse of Franke’s children. Because the children’s cases involve highly sensitive and private information, this account avoids repeating graphic details. KSL reported that access to the juvenile court matters was restricted for those reasons. KSL’s report on the access restrictions explains that context.
When were the journal pages released?
KSL reported the release on March 22, 2024, following public-records requests. Its coverage said prosecutors made the journal available alongside other case documents, videos and recordings. A separate KSL report described 60 pages of entries dated May to August 2023. These are KSL’s descriptions of the release; they should not be read as confirmation that every journal page was made public.

Washington County Attorney’s official case page hosts case documents and related media. It is the primary place to consult the county’s released materials.
What was the legal status when the records came out?
The release followed the criminal case’s resolution. Washington County’s case page states that Franke pleaded guilty to four counts of aggravated child abuse and was sentenced on February 20, 2024. The county says Utah’s Board of Pardons and Parole oversees the eventual length of the indeterminate sentence. That legal disposition is distinct from the journal’s contents and from descriptions in investigative records.

The county page also links a redacted investigative report. An investigative report records the investigation’s findings and descriptions; it should not be treated as a separate court judgment on each reported detail.
